Proteolytic enzymes from the serine endopeptidase family are found in normal blood and urine. Specifically, Kallikreins are potent vasodilators and hypotensives, increase vascular permeability and affect smooth muscle.
They act as infertility agents in men. Three forms are recognized, PLASMA KALLIKREIN, TISSUE KALLIKREIN, and PROSTATE-SPECIFIC ANTIGEN. Therapeutically, kallikrein is used in treating peripheral vascular and coronary arterial diseases and in delayed fracture and wound healing.
