Alpha Lipoic Acid

  • Alpha-Lipoic Acid (ALA) is a mitochondrial fatty acid that is highly involved in energy metabolism.
  • ALA is a potent anti-oxidant compound. It works with mitochondria and the body's natural anti-oxidant defenses. ALA is also seen as an anti-aging compound since it can reverse some of the oxidant damage related to the effects of aging.
  • The first distinct trait of ALA is its absorbability. ALA can be transferred and accumulated in the tissues of our bodies, however it is also important to note that it is readily taken up through oral supplementation and converted to its reduced form dihydrolipoic acid (DHLA) in most of the body’s tissues. This is a key feature as it is not only easily ingested and absorbed, but also converted for immediate use where ever in the body it is required.
  • ALA has shown benefit for various forms of oxidation and inflammation. These effects protect against heart diseases, liver diseases, diabetes, and neurological decline associated with aging.
